I thought the look of this dress was similar to the housewife dresses of the 40s. And the idea of train travel embodies that time period for me. Whenever you see a love story that takes place during WWII you can bet there's going to be a train involved....at some point.
I used a very, very soft black and white plaid homespun fabric. To add a splash of color I made the belt and buttons candy apple red. It has a shirt dress fit with retro buttons down the front. With the little red suitcase and frock, she looks like she's ready to go to Grandma's house.
Since, it comes pretty far down on Lily, I would say that this would fit a 3-5 year old. If you're unsure, Lily's measurements are: waist-19", height- 38"
from that hopefully you can sort of judge for yourself.
PLUS, if you leave a comment I will include the most darling matching button barrets, see below.
Last day for posts is MONDAY 7/21/08. Winner will be announced WEDNESDAY morning!
As usual, if you would like a chance to win this frock just link back to this post. If you have any questions see the "questions and answers" link to the right. If you use blogger just use the "create a link" link at the bottom of this post. If you don't use blogger, that's fine too. Just create a link on your page as you normally would and I will see it using Technorati.
I just wanted to add that even if I don't get to change the graphics on the buttons to the right, I should have new content everyday. Sometimes, things get pretty hectic around here and I don't always get the extra hour on the computer that I need to change the pics on the buttons. But please keep checking them out to see what's new!
ONE MORE THING! If anyone thinks that their link is not showing up just let me know where you've blogged in a comment and I will add it to the giveaway that way.
Something that is also a good idea for any blogger is to claim their blog in Technorati. You can do it here at the bottom of the page. I believe they index all their registered blogs daily AND the more you get pinged, the more up-to-date your rank is. I'll include this little blurb in my Q&A for anyone else who needs it.

In response to Naomi (and Iris),
Two days ago, I had contacted Technorati about why your link didn't show up. They have yet to get back to me. I won't hold my breath. Naomi, yours was particularly strange because it picked up your first post on the strawberry caplet.
If anyone thinks that their link is not showing up just let me know in a comment and I will add it to the giveaway that way.

Kathy Brown
I'm a day late (and a dollar short) but I must comment on this precious dress. It would have looked perfect on my four year old grand. The measurements you quoted are her's...
What amazing talent! I just started sewing for my daughter and it is more difficult then it looked! But I think it is so rewarding to see her wear something I made with my own hands! Your clothes are an inspiration.
obsessed!!! love, love, love it. i want one in my size.
Wow...I may be too late to get the chance to win but I am posting a comment anyway. That dress is so...cute. I am thinking it would be a good idea for me to get better at sewing so I can make dresses like that for my little one. Angela is 6 months old right now but hopefully I can make her look as cute as your little girl in that dress. Anyways...it's sure is nice of you to give the dress away. I hope I can be that generous...I could see myself trying to make a profit on e-bay...but I guess it means a lot more to give than to recieve. Wow...you must think I'm strange. This is so long and you don't even know me. Anyways...keep up the good work.
I was bummed not to win this one -- it is SO gorgeous -- but now I'm inspired and would like to make my own version! Would you be willing to share pattern info? Thank you!
So sweet, it would look so cute on my 3 year old.
How could anybody not enter for this dress. Super cute and stylish. It definately leaves and impression (in a good way!) Count me in!
And I also really thought this was E-town train station and it WAS!
Two of my friends put a link to your blog on their blogs, so I had to check it out! I'm too late, alas, for the drawing, but I'm so impressed with your sewing ability. I really, really wish I could sew, but I destroy things I try to sew. :) Hooray for moms who can sew! I loved that my mom could sew all my prom dresses. My poor daughter will not have that luxury.
I sure hope you have an etsy shop because you do some amazing work that you can sell for great prices! Let me know, I'd certainly get my girls something. :)
This dress is amazing!!
Good Job! :)
This dress is to die for. More, more, more, please!
