I bought this adorable fabric at Purl Soho. It was the first thing I've ever bought from them. I've ogled over their fabrics for a while now but just couldn't bring myself to pay for shipping. I hate shipping. It's often more expensive than the fabric itself. How is that fair? But with these little overalls, I had something very specific in mind. And after many disappointing trips to three local fabric shops, I know better than to waste my time. So after some pre-planning I bought this and I have to say I'm very pleased with the result.
Ideally, I wanted to find a brown fabric with a white swiss dot pattern to contrast. But like I said before, when I have something specific in mind I'll never find it.....never. So I had to settle for this plain brown fabric, however it was fairly expensive, 'organic', and very soft. Instead of white swiss dots I used white trim which created a similar effect.
I used snaps instead of buttons. To attach them I bought a snap pliers. And I must tell you that it was a dream to use! I've tried to attach grommets with those little kits that come in the package and they have come out awful! Just awful! Not to mention difficult. With my new snap plier I just put the pieces in, clamp down, and voila....I'm done! I should be getting paid for this rave review:)
But what I liked best about these little overalls was that I think it could be suitable for both a boy and a girl. So all you moms with boys can enter. I really need to make more of these, right?!
My guess is that it fits a 12-24 month old baby. My molly is 14 months and pretty light for her age.
In my life outside this blog, I've been busy sewing as well, spending all last night helping out my fellow MOPS make miniature circus tents for our table settings. I felt so useful being able to offer my sewing skills for purposes other than Grosgrain. I wish I had taken some photos of us hard at work but the thought didn't even occur to me until admiring the finished tents which looked AWESOME! I do a lot of other things outside this blog which you might have seen from my other blog 'The Tumtum Tree' which I'm sad to say I haven't had any time to keep up. So I have been debating adding a button to the side which would occasionally journal the other things in my life outside Grosgrain. We'll see. I guess it depends on my free time.
And I have to add, I was so thrilled with the response I received from the Garden Party Frock! Thanks to some popular blogs who mentioned me I broke some of my own personal records. I gushed over every comment and checked them every few minutes.
Many of you ask how I can make these little outfits and then just give them away. My answer to you is it's your enthusiasm and support which makes this blog worth my while and a great joy for me! Thank you all!
Last day for posts is Tuesday 8/26/08. Winner will be announced Thursday morning!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting something a little boy could wear! There just aren't that many patterns for little boys out there, and even fewer designs that are as creative as this. I always feel bad that I can't sew as much for my little boy as I can for girls. This one is just darling!
What a cute outfit for baby! And what a cute baby!
You continue to impress! I can't wait to see what you'll do next!

That is so precious and would look so cute on my Millie - of course, it looks great on your Molly!
OMG! I am kvelling over this! : )
I love that apple fabric - and I'm glad that you finally broke down to pay for shipping! Shipping can ruin all sorts of fun! This would fit my girl beautifully right now! She is so mobile and gets so angry with her dresses that this would be perfect for her! Plus it's hotter than hades down here in Texas, so it would definitely keep her cool when we're at the park!
No wonder you had to get that fabric. Its adorable. Cant wait to see who wins!
This is so dang cute! Love it!
Great romper! Oh, I want to see pictures of the circus tents! I belong to MOPS, too -and am in charge of table decorations --we are going to do popcorn boxes or something along those lines --but the tents sound really cute!
This is super adorable! I can just picture my little girl in this and she's the same age!!!! Cute, cute, cute!!!!! You do such an amazing job.
Oh my, I can't decide what I want more, the little romper or the BABY. Both are so dang cute!!
I agree with the poster who said that you should be selling on etsy. I couldn't possibly love the things you make more. Too bad my kiddo is too big for them....but I do have friends....
This reminds me of my curtains when I was a kid...
So cute, it makes me want to cry! You are so talented!
How adorable! I have a niece that would look so cute in your handmade
Overalls. Please enter me in your drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

I just found you today through allsorts, and I am now in love! You're added to my blog roll and I look forward to checking back often.
*Dreams about her little Balach in the perfect orchard overalls* Maybe these will give me the motivation I need to finally get started on the Poppet's orchard dress I already had the fabric for...
This is so cute! Do you ever get tired of hearing it? Love the fabric. I'm intrigued by the snaps, I've never used real ones before. Thanks for the continual inspiration.-Amy

super cute! I love your outfits!
So I just found your blog today and think the clothes you make are the cutest most stylish for little girls I have yet to see. I have a 2 year old that I am always trying to find new patterns to make for. Have you ever considered selling any of the patterns? I think they would be a huge hit!
I so want this for my baby who turns one next week. It would be the perfect birthday outfit, don't you think? Please, please, pick me?!
I don't mean to sound like a broken record but YOU ARE AMAZINGLY talented. Someone she scoop you up to design and create your own children's clothing line (which would be super time-consuming with two kids at home).
Honestly, just when I think I'm being crafty and creative and proud of my skills...I scroll through your archives and am awed by what you come up with.
Do you use patterns or come up with the ideas yourself?
Love the adorable overall and the stunning images displaying the piece...how do you pull off such amazing photographs every time?
This would look perfect on my littlun' while tottling around our homestead.
Love it, love it, love it!!!
sooooooo can a boy wear this? hmmmm...i think so but maybe not. i absolutely love love love all your stuff!!!

They are so cute, I'm going to have to check if they have any of that fabric left I think. Molly looks gorgeous!
I just found you through another blogging buddy! I am so sad that I have missed out but I am here now and love all the beautiful items you have created! Do you ever do little boy things?
Jeanne
Just joining the call for patterns!!
This is so adorable!! I love it!!
This one is so cute-and creative..all the button details. I reallly love the front paneling of a farmyard/orchard. Reminds me of my childhood days-i was raised out in the country.
Those who create are rare; those who cannot are numerous. Therefore, the latter are stronger.

Okay, I just basically created a blog so that I could link to this giveaway to have a chance to win this cute as can be outfit. I have no idea if I have done this properly, but I am crossing both sets of fingers that I have. My daughter would look absolutely beyond adorable in this outfit. Brown is her color. With eyes swinched, "Oh, please! Oh, please!"
OMGoooodness are those darling! They are just full of retro vintagey goodness and I'm glad that you went ahead and got the fabric for your vision, they really came out perfect.

Hi!
I have just discovered your blog and this tiny wonder you are writing about. It is so cute!!!! Like your blog and your creations. Congratulations!
I love all things Orchard-inspired, am wondering if I could squeeze into these myself? ;)
I don't have a blog but wanted to let you know how cute those overalls are. I would love to make some for my niece and if I ever get ahold of her (they live in the UK) I will try and measure her for something similar. WTG!

So glad I found your blog! I love your creations!
I have a baby that size. Pick me, pick me :o)
Very cute overalls!
I love sewing cute things!
Oh how I adore your clothes...but this is one of my favorites. I hope this is my lucky day!
Not only the actual overalls, but the way you have placed the baby in the exact scene of the printed cloth is ingenious! How I admire your creative energy...I want to make more for my kids, especially while they're little, but I am so tired by the end of the day. If I am lucky enough to win something from you though, maybe my kids can still wear nice homemade clothes, full of a mother's love.
Hi There,
I'd love to know how to make something like this for my little boy who will be a year old on Easter. I am new to sewing but really want to get going on some fun projects. Where should I start?
Thanks,
Heather
