Last weekend not only did we set the clocks forward but we got a good taste of spring! Bitter sweet. With highs in the 70s I went out and bought a gorgeous sleeveless dress and wore it everywhere for the next three days. (yes, I wore the same thing, three days in a row) It was that good! After that I decided to sew something a little more....seasonal.
So how did I end up with paper cranes? Well, it's sort of a 'six degrees of separation' thing. Springtime reminds me of Cherry Blossoms. Cherry Blossoms reminds me of Japan. Japan reminds me of origami. Origami reminds me of paper cranes. Thus springtime reminds me of papercranes. Wait. That's only five. Whatever....
The dress resembles a paper crane with white folds in the front. The tiny ruffles on the sides are delicately frayed the way torn paper looks when it has been folded and ripped. The ruffle lines the folded front then runs all the way along the shoulders to the back.
I was very happy with the skirt. Tea length reminds me of everything modest and clean. Perfect for a picnic in the park, barbeque at the lake or afternoon patio party. Ack, just listing those things make me long for SUMMER!
Though it's not yet warm enough to wear the dress here in Pennsylvania, the highs are now averaging in the 50s. And I (just this morning) noticed the leaves on my azalea bushes! So there's hope. I haven't hung my new dress just yet.
About that dress, it was an AMAZING FIND! We have a chain of store in this area called Gabriel Brothers. I've put them down many a time because for a while they didn't have very desirable inventory. And it seemed every time I bought something I eventually felt disappointed with my purchase.
But last week, I went there looking for an Antropolification skirt only to find actual Anthropologie! (spelled by GB as anthropology) I bought two dresses I had drooled over last season for only $15 a piece. So finally I own an Anthropologie garment!
This was my first shoot with the new paper backdrop I bought for indoor shots. And I really must thank Brian for staying up until 1:30 am to work out the kinks of these photos and coming up with new ways to shoot in such a confined space.
Last summer a friend and I bought about six or seven Ann Taylor dresses with broken zippers for only $7 a piece, originally close to $200. I got compliments everywhere I went! Seriously. So I guess, GB is back in my good graces....for now.
Brian and I spent most of the night watching 'How I Met Your Mother' while making the paper cranes. They're currently hanging from the ceiling in our bonus room. Now my only question is what to do with them. They're so pretty I couldn't bare to just throw them away. I'm thinking a rotating mobile for Molly's crib? Or a hanging from a string? Any ideas? But, alas, where to find the time?
The size of the dress is small. It has a 26 inch waist line and a 34 inch bust line but the dress was not tight around the waist. So I would say it could fit up to a 27" or 28". Also, it is very see-through. So you must wear a slip underneath the skirt. If the winner of the giveaway leaves a comment I will also include the striped hair scarf featured in the photos.
As usual, if you would like a chance to win this dress just link back to this post. If you have any questions see the "questions and answers" link to the right. If you use blogger just use the "create a link" link at the bottom of this post. If you don't use blogger, that's fine too. Just create a link on your page as you normally would and I will see it using Technorati.

So pretty. Perfectly spring. I own an anthro skirt that I bought on sale. It has a stain, though. :(
