I'm sorry I'm so late to post today. I had a cystoscopy this morning. Unpleasant. But I think it was the pain killer that did me in. I've been vomiting and dizzy all day. I would have probably been better without it.
At any rate, this is what you should have by the end of today! Starting to really take shape! I love when you sew the front and back pieces together. That's when you can really get excited about finishing.

Here are the instructions.
Step 1: Make pleats at the top of your front bodice pieces. See the two points (see pic) Fold them together and sew three inches down. Do this for both sides of the front bodice and both sides of the back bodice. Iron.
Step 2: Sew the yoke onto the front bodice, right sides together as shown in picture. Iron.
And you do not need both yoke pieces.
The pattern called for two and I cut two, but after reviewing the instructions I realized that it was simpler to use one. And since I'm helping out beginners I decided to go the simpler way.

Step 3: Sew back yoke to back bodice piece, right sides together as shown in picture. I had to make a couple pleats in the back of my yoke for some reason. Iron.
Step 4: Sew front bodice to back bodice right sides together, from bottom of arm hole down to seam. If you decide to make pockets, leave an opening in the seams starting at 11” down from the arm hole and ending 17” down from arm hole.
Step 5: If you are making pockets, cut out four pocket patterns. Keep dress inside out. Take one pocket piece and sew it to one side of the opening you left, with right sides together in between the seams you just sewed. Do this to the other side of the pocket with the other pocket pattern.
Step 6: Sew outside of pocket.
Step 7: Do this to other side of bodice for second pocket. Turn dress right side out.

Hope you feel better soon. And the dress looks absolutely lovely!
Hope you're feeling better. Makes my excuses for falling behind on this completely lame.
Thanks for persevering!
You poor thing! Praying for you to feel better. You are one strong woman to be sick yet still finish your day of sewing. An inspiration to us all! >hugs<
Sorry you are feeling poorly.
In other news, I am learning SO much from you. Thank you for doing these Frock by Friday posts!
I don't see a mark on the actual pattern for the front pleats. I have them for the back... can you please illustrate where it needs to be pleated in the front?
thanks!
angelaphotos,
I just did them the same way I did the back. Two in the middle, about one inch apart and about one inch deep.
You are so wonderful and I love your blog!
I have given you a little award on my blog here:

I hope you are well by now. Sure is no fun when you are sick. I love all your dresses and you reminded me of my mom. I wish she's here to teach me how to sew dresses. Too bad I didn't even have an interest about sewing before. Take care!
So sorry about your morning, hope you feel better!
confused...is the back yoke the same as the front one...how are they attached...can you send me some more close up picts i can't figure out how they are going to come together at all and the back yoke is so much bigger than the back bodice piece? ...are we going to cut the yoke in the front as it is a closed circle now adn that would not be right???? help...

This is super cute - I love the fabric! I made a smocked dress with some similar fabric from the same collection (stonehill?)
I hope you're feeling better - I'm recovering from kidney surgery right now so I understand how obnoxious it is!

Poor thing. I hope you are feeling better again now! And wow, still sewing while you're sick(when I'm sick, I feel very sorry for myself and hide on the couch ;-)), I'm impressed!
oh that sucks! my empathy thought forms beaming your way :)
Jennifer,
I was super confused too! I ripped it out three times until I finally figured it out. But here's how it goes:
First off, and I should have mentioned this in the post, you do not need both yoke pieces.
The pattern called for two and I cut two, but after reviewing the instructions I realized that it was simpler to use one. And since I'm helping out beginners I decided to go the simpler way.
As for the yoke being too big, I agree. In step 3 on Thursday I had to pleat the yoke in the back quite a bit. It didn't really affect the look of the dress happily.
Okay thanks so much it makes so much more sense now with the yoke..i really appreciate all of your help especially when you are feeling sick...feel better soon!! are you going to continue to do these frocks by friday...love them :)! Thanks!
where is monday?
hello, I'm so happy about your frock by friday tutorial!
But now I really need your help!
I've problems with my pleats on the front bodie - the fabric bumps up very strange and I think this will not fit to my body!
How can I work it out, make the pleats longer oder shorter or just smaller or wider . . . . .
(I've used the 36 size pattern may it comes because my breasts would need half a size more!?)
Please help! And thanks a lot for all your great photos :-)
Anonymous,
Do you mean the pleats at the top of the front bodice? If so are you telling me that it is too small for your bustline? If so, you could remove a pleat and only have one instead of two or make the pleats a little smaller (that is fold it less) BUT if you do that you will also have to lengthen the yoke a bit so that the seams match up at the armhole.
