Was I in bizzaro world last night? Was the group's taste just really off?
Ok, I liked Michael C.'s dress, but I think Casanova said it best (wait, did I just say that?) "The dress that Michael made (pause)....every girl from Puerto Rico have that dress in their closet."
I laughed out loud when Ivy screamed "WTF! There I said it!" Everyone in the room was dumbfounded. If anything, it was entertaining.
And I know I didn't agree last week with the judges pick, but again, HOW did the Michael D's top and skirt not win?! Paired with the hat, I thought it was amazing! It complimented it perfectly! It really looked like something I'd see on the runway.
Speaking of complimenting, why, why, WHY, was Valerie's dress in the top three? Philip Treacy seemed the only sane one there when he questioned it. It went with the hat/mask about as much as a fish goes with a bicycle. When Michael Kors said "I think in this instance I'm happy she didn't do a black chiffon and lace gown." I was thinking then why did you even have a themed challenge to begin with? I mean yes, it DIDN'T have to be a black lacey gown, but at least that would have complimented the mask. If this weren't the bizzaro episode she would be in the bottom three and they would be criticizing her not following the challenge.
Speaking of the bottom three....Mondo....WTH? Why was he and Peach not there? I liked Peach's look I'd wear it to a party but I think Project Runway is about looking innovative and avant garde. Her stuff looks like patterns I've seen in Simplicity. Nothing groundbreaking there.
I think Christopher was all ready to be in the top three and when they started really tearing into his jacket you could see the look on his face just melt. I think the judges were right about the material looking like drapery but there's NO WAY it was worse than Mondo's clown costume.
The only thing I agreed with the judges about was Kristin going home. When she was talking with April about being in the top two, she was clearly deluded. The black satin was heavy and cheap looking, the dress had puckers all over the place and looked like someone sewed a bunch of fabric together blindfolded. It should have been something delicate, maybe even vagina looking? I think someone else could have totally slam dunked that dress.
Finally, Gretchen. I'm really glad they backed off in this episode. I had about enough. She has a certain articulation to her words that just grates on me. The moment she opened her mouth I was all ready to be annoyed. Thankfully that didn't happen. But I have to add, she really glammed it up last night with the handkerchief top in the sewing room and smoky eyes at panel. Maybe she foresaw all our comments about her haircut?
I think iheartdesign said it best in my last post, " She's not entirely a MEAN girl, right? But I think its just as frustrating to watch someone so irritating!"
All I can say is I'm really excited to see next week's "team theme". I mean, can you just imagine?

I agree, loveloveloved Michael D's skirt and top. It was a perfect match for the hat. Do you miss the model's after show they had last year? I do.
ohmygoodness ... i totally agree. michael d. and should have won or at least been in the top two. PEACH SHOULD BE GONE!!! although i did agree that kristin was definitely the right choice to be out this week. i recently heard an interview with tim gunn (i think with ryan seacrest) where tim actually said that this season, he thinks the judges (and i quote) are 'smoking crack.' oh. my. yes ... bizzaro world.
I was so glad that Gretchen kept her mouth shut...like they need someone yelling...."15 minutes to go"... she is aNNoying...
I wonder if Micheal C.'s dress showed a more iridescent tone in person...they all kept saying how it brought out the shiny in the hat...
I DO miss the model show. Wonder what happened to it?
I so agree! I thought Michael D did an amazing job. And I think the only reason Peach and Casanova are still on is that there were people who sucked more than they did. Peach won't make it. She's not innovative or fresh. She could design for Coldwater Creek or the Dress Barn, though. But man, that dress of Kristen's was AWFUL. Oh, and Gretchen. It's so annoying how she has to say "design esthetic" every week. Give me a freakin' break.
I'm on the Michael D bandwagon too - that top was AWESOME and looked so good with the hat. Kristin's dress looked like something a home ec student would make to wear to prom.
Gretchen annoys me to no end, but Casanova is REALLY growing on me. He's so clueless!
Yeah, about the winner. Sure it's cute, but it's also something I could walk into a store an buy for $20. And I didn't think that Chris' look was as bad as they said. In fact, I'm considering making myself a cute little jacket like that to wear about this winter. Is it just me, or are celebrities insane if they actually think wearing these hats won't make people go "Uh, wtf?" I thought they were all awful. Or maybe they picked the most outrageous of Tracy's works. Yuck.
I was so annoyed with the designers last night, hardly any of the outfits correlated with the hats! HELLO?! Peach's hat was so beautiful, WTH does that dress have to do with that black and white hat?! I'm thinking like a "My Fair Lady" thing or something...And I totally know what I would have done for the orchid hat, sheesh! I don't get the judges, they seriously must be smoking crack!
I don't think most of the designers really designed a dress that worked with those fabulous hats. Most of them had a hat and a dress that had nothing to do with each other. I liked the winning dress, but I don't think it should have won. I am glad Gretchen was not in the top this week, but her head still looks like it is going to explode with her ego :)
After rooting for hometown hero, Seth Aaron, it's hard to root for Gretchen this season. She grates because of editing (and her "advice"), I know. I'm getting weary of her, too.
If ya'll are on FB, Tim Gunn has a great vlog going after the eps so that you can hear HIS thoughts on the crack-smoking trio. They're really all over the place this year.
I liked Michael D's treatment for his hat (one of the only ones that actually paid homage to the hat), and I'm TOTALLY making a bolero this fall.
Casanova and Peach's time on PR is short. Thankfully.
Anybody else annoyed by the unusable zippers on Valerie's outfit, tho? I usually like her work, but was underwhelmed this week.
Yeah, this season is really throwing me. Maybe the clothes look a LOT different in person than they are coming through on our screens? I think April should have gone home the first episode, though. I don't know what they see in her.
I have to tell you that the second I saw Michael D's skirt I thought 'oh please let there be a tutorial on Grosgrain tomorrow.' I want that skirt so badly I can taste it.
oh yes team theme will be very entertaining!

I loved both of the designs that the Michael's did, but Valeries?!? Yes, those unusable zippers that did not add anything to the design bothered me. Not a fan. I did like Christopher's design though, even with the heavier fabric. There were so many stunning, breathtaking hats that the designs detracted from it was pitiful-Kristin, April and Peach to name a few. I would have died and gone to heaven to have designed for the feather or orchid hat....(SIGH...)
Here, here, I agree with everything you said, glad I'm not the only one.
The unusable zippers were on at least two of the outfits, don't like them. I was suprised the judges didn't make any diaper comments about April's outfit (did say 3 pairs of panties but it really looked like a big diaper). I loved Chris' and so did Tim, Gretchen outfit at least went with her hat and am glad she didn't have so much imput this week. Peach's dress did not go with the hat at all and neither did Valeries or Michael C, Kristen was a good choice to go home, don't understand how she thought her outfit was so great? Mondo designs for the runway or maybe teenagers (boys he said)Michael D's outfit was smart and runway professional. I was surprised when one of the contestants said people don't wear hat anymore and Heidi, with her big blob of black/red think hanging on the side of her head said something like everyone she knows wears hats or everyone should wear hats. What??? I haven't see a lot of hats out there have you?
Thank you! You said everything I screamed at the TV while watching. The second I saw Peach's outfit I was sure she'd be going home for a sad little dress made out of a couch that didn't have anything to do with her hat. Not in the bottom three????? How?????
thank you for directing me to the lifetime site for episodes. I got caught up. I was just confused. I didn't really like any of them. But, I was really focused on the head gear too. Gretchen is irritating. In the beginning I thought, hurray! another Portlander in the running, but she's been edited to be a problem.
Okay - Michael D should have totally won, hands down. His design was gorgeous, made well, and went perfectly with the hat.
I don't know what's going on with the judges' decisions. Crazy. And I'd like to say I don't care for Gretchen, but I think she is a talented designer amidst some people who have no business being on PR. I don't blame her for some of her comments!
We get TV shows a week late out here on our rock so I really have no idea what you're talking about until the next week. Ha ha! But the good thing is, I'm not one of those "no spoilers" kind of people. And yes, why is Peach even there?
I totally agree! Were the judges blind this time?? Peach makes the worst fabric choices ever. Mondo's outfit is horrid. The Michaels both had good outfits but I have a dress that looks just like Michael C's dress in my closet. I think everyone has one right?
