Thrift Store Thursday: The Urban Hippie Frock

Here's a neat idea. If you find a ruffled bottom, wide, open waisted dress that you like but is too long (see bottom pic), cut the ruffles off of the bottom, then cut a few inches off the bottom of the dress and reattach the ruffles where you cut the dress. It won't look like you hemmed anything at all.

OR, if it doesn't have ruffles and is too long, cut off the bottom and make ruffles out of the extra fabric and attach to bottom. But I think the ruffled bottom look only works for loose clothes. If you add it to a tight dress it might look a little dated. BUT I wouldn't put my money on that. You never know what look could turn out to be amazing!

I bought this at the Sal Val yesterday for $2 and I thought this dress looked like something an urban hippie might wear. I paired it with my Forever 21 hobo sack, F21 belt and Payless moccasins.

Since it was a baggier dress I thought it would look best with a short length. The belt kind of made it shorter when I put it on so I wished I would have let it one or two inches longer. If you're ever making a dress with a belt just keep that in mind.

I thought it kind of looked this this Burdastyle pattern that I've been eyeing for a couple months.
