Technique Tuesday: Using a Pintuck Foot

Pintucks are so cool. They look professional and make your home sewn clothing look impressive. In this video I show you how to use a pintuck foot to make perfect pintucks everytime without having to even look at a ruler. I definitely recommend getting a pintuck foot. I bought mine last week for only $3.99 here plus $1.99 shipping AND I used coupon code: VVN392R to get 20% off my order.

You can do a couple neat tricks with pintucks. First littlegirlPearl used a contrasting thread to make her pintucks which gave it an eyepopping look. Second, pouch_designs took her pintucks and sewed a line across, pushing them in one direction, then below sewed a line pushing them in another direction. The result is a cool wavy look. I think that would make a GREAT look for a front bib dress.

Hi Kathleen,
I believe there's a problem with the audio about 30 seconds into the video... Other than that, thank you for this tutorial! I recently got a pintuck foot but didn't know that you actually need a twin needle to use it :-P

I was excited to watch your video, but at least on my computer, the sound stops after about the first 30 seconds. I tried it both on your blog page and within the YouTube page. Are others having this problem?

happyfamily said... Best Blogger Tips

So, call me crazy, but does the sound just go off at about 1 minute?

Jessica said... Best Blogger Tips

YEAH! Thanks Kathleen that was awesome! I've been waiting for that one!

PS. I ordered my child's dress form like you suggested and it will be here shortly! Can't wait to get started on that Halloween costume!

I can't hear the sound after about a minute; is there something I'm doing wrong with the video?

SL said... Best Blogger Tips

Is it just me or does the video lose sound after a while?

Anonymous said... Best Blogger Tips

there is no sound for most of your video

Brittny said... Best Blogger Tips

Thanks for posting this. I don't know why bit I loose sound after you install the twin needle. Is anyone else having this problem?

The sound stopped working for me about 30 seconds in.

I love watching your tutorials! I have been sewing since I was 7 (40 years!) but I always learn something new when I watch your clips.

I have one of these but have never used it, now I can't wait to make something for may granddaughter!

If you don't mind, I have a tip for you. It looks as if you hold your camera in one hand while trying to sew. Look at hatcams.com! I have a friend that uses one of these when she needs hands free filming and it works great. It is about $30 but if you already have a camera that would fit it, it might help you out!

I am looking forward to your next tutorial! Thanks again for doing them!

Thanks Brandi,
I am currently trying to find one so that is useful!

Thanks for the post. I actually just made a top for myself similar to the one you have on your blog. The hard part for me was making the pattern. I didn't use a pintuck foot. Although it does make it easy to make the pintucks, I personally don't like the stiching it makes on the back of the pintuck. I really like your "technic Tuesdays".

So nice! I want a pin tuck foot now! I have a Singer though, so I'm guessing the foot for it may look a little different.

Thanks for the tutorial! I love pin tucks. :)

Beth,
Actually I've bought singer foots for my machine before and they fit as long as they are the type that you just snap on.

I have been wondering about this type of foot. I do believe I may need to purchase one. :)

GuysGirlKnits said... Best Blogger Tips

I had no idea it was that easy! I thought there was all sorts of folding and measuring to do.

Is that foot pretty universal? I have a Kenmore but I didn't see any other brand mentioned on the link so I thought perhaps it doesn't matter that much.

Thanks - your tutorial series is awesome. I've had a pintuck foot for years but never knew how to use it!

thanks for this. I was wondering if you had already shown how to do a hem. I find making a hem on skirts and dresses hard because it never looks clean.

thanks!
