I found this camisole at the Community Aid store for $1. It was cute but I don't wear many camisoles. It had a second tier so I thought it would be a good candidate for attaching another tier to turn it into a dress.
The camisole was dyed in a sort of ombre pattern. So after I added a white tier I also dyed a tan line into the hem of the skirt to match the top.
Voila. New $1 summer dress.
It's getting cooler here now and I'm starting to look at 3/4" sleeves but I wanted to buy one last summer dress. Whenever it gets really cold I long for the days I can run out to my car is just a spaghetti strapped frock and bare feet. But that being said I am sort of looking forward to autumn. It's been a hot summer. A REAL hot summer here in Pennsylvania. I plan on wearing a lot of knit dresses with elbow length sleeves and ruffles in fall. Oh and boots. Lots of brown leather knee high boots:)

Cute! It reminds me of neapolitan ice cream... yum!
Shelley,
I totally agree! I loved it so much I changed the name:)
What a simple but effective idea :)!
Hmmm... [just thinking to myself] maybe this idea could be done to several camisole tops in my wardrobe - but if the tier was sewn as a seperate piece (bound at the top with bias binding) then using press-snaps/studs it could be made removable! Then you'd get both a top + a dress = double the wardrobe potential (yay!!)
So cute !
Love it! Btw how do you get such gorgeously colored backgrounds?
Your welcome!!
umm... you are amazing.
Emily,
I have about 3 different paper backgrounds. BUT, right now I have the orange one up.j The neat thing about the orange I've found is that you can change it to almost any color using photoshop. A green screen would work too but you'd have to get a paper one for the 'paper' look. I'm sure they have them out there but the orange one works well enough for me:)
Here's a link for a green background paper: http://www.amazon.com/12yds-Background-Paper-Tech-Green/dp/B000AYA4U2/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1284066322&sr=8-15
I like this much better as a dress. I would not have bought it as a camisole. It's just not attractive, I don't think. But you made it cute!
Totally clever. the dying is very effective.

The dress looks fabulous ~ I would not have bought it as a cami, but as a dress it takes on a whole different appeal.

This is an awesome idea. I don't know how you managed to match the dyed colors!
Great idea! I don't know how you were able to match the dyed color so well!
I also love the colors... wonderful!
Just wanted to say your thrift store recons are absolutely amazing and inspiring! Besides looking for large clothing items (as per one of your earlier posts), what other characteristics in a potential item do you look for? I've gone thrifting a few times, but have come back empty handed (maybe I'm looking at the wrong things?)
love it. and what a simple and effective way to alter the top.
you make me want to go scrounge through all the thrift stores this weekend for cool finds.
wonder what the hubby would think of that???
When you said that you got your top at Community Aid thrift, I knew you had to be from Pennsylvania :) My favorite is the Community Aid on the Carlisle Pike, in Mechanicsburg/Camp Hill area. Not sure if there are any others around here :)
Really cute dress!
