Thrift Store Thursday: Back to School Night Frock

September 2, 2010

I bought this Express Studio Frock at the Sal Val for $2. It wasn't so bad but it looked a little dated with the long sleeves and collar. But I liked the pin tucks in the front and the size and length didn't need any fixing.

I brought it home and took my seam ripper to it. To change the look of this dress I simply removed the collar and sleeves. Here's the neat part. Most collars have a middle piece that connects to the dress. I ripped the stitches out that connect the collar to this middle piece. I then stitched the opening back up and what I had left was a neat little mission collar.
Finally, I cut the sleeves off and hemmed the raw edges to the inside. Now, I have a neat little summer/fall frock. I might even wear it to back to school night tonight.

LOOK FOR A FROCK BY FRIDAY POST LATER TODAY.

nice! i have one in my closet that needs a little something and losing the sleeves might just be the thing.

That is tooo cute. I love the ingeniousness (?) of it. TOO crafty for words. I love the lack of sleeves; could just see it paired with a nice cardigan sweater.

this is absolutely brilliant! I'm really tall and as such I have long arms and often have issues with dresses like this, sleeves ride up hitting me awkardly between wrist and 3/4 length... next tome I see a dress like this that I like I'm going to have to do this!!
