First off, the quality of this video is much better than my previous attempts. The sound is audible, the visual is clear and my popups look good. With each try I'm getting better.
So yesterday I posted my 'This Day's Threads' which featured a pair of jeans that I retailored to fit my frame and change the shape they originally were sewn into.
Today I'm going to show you how I did that. Not too hard actually. I do it the 'cheating' way. If you want your seams to be 'flat felled' that will have to wait for another tutorial. I figured I'd show you the 'easy' way first. Then maybe later we can go over the 'right' way.
I still think these look great for the small amount of time I put into them. PLUS, only cost me $3.50 at the Salvation Army on half off Wednesdays.
I also retailored the blazer but didn't make a video. Sometime I will show you how. It's basically the same way I retailored my red pea coat this winter. Again, the 'cheating' way;) Which BTW is usually totally worth the time/sanity saved!

This is awesome!!!!! I've been losing weight and I don't have the money to buy brand new jeans every time I go down a size! Thank you so much!!!!
Great idea. It is so hard to find jeans that fit perfectly and you've shown us how! Now, if we could only figure out a way to make too tight jeans looser? Haha.
That's what my mom used to do with all my jeans when altering them since I a small and shorty one. Your pants turned out really great and looks like something you paid for a lot money. :) Thanks for sharing!

awesome tutorial, you're adorable. I love hearing the kids in the background!
Your tailoring has inspired me to do more to my clothes! I just finished a cocktail dress that was just too big all around and it looks perfect! Thanks you!
This is really helpful. Thank you so much for sharing this...I think I might go do that to a couple of pairs I have right now.
Great tutorial!
I just did my own "Embellish Your Knit" post and linked to your blog! You are an inspiration!

What a gorgeous (but giant) pair of jeans to begin with!
You are so inspiring. You make such daunting sewing tasks seem so doable. Thanks for teaching all of us how to be better sewers!
Great, great post! Could you PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE! show how to take in a jacket at the back/shoulder areas? I bought a couple that I just had to have but can't decide how to take them in without ruining them.
thank you!
Thank you very much for posting this tutorial! I know this is going to be very helpful the next time I buy jeans from the thrift store.
This is awesome! Thank you so much for the tutorial. I will definitely be hitting up the thrift store when I lose weight. :D
I can't believe how these looked before, I've been combing the thrift stores hunting for emmerson-style high waisted retro flares, but now I'll just do my own.
Was the deep hem put in by you or were they in the original pants, I Love that detail!
I cannot believe that is the same pair of jeans! Wow!
These look so so good! Really great tutorial too. Thank you so much for posting.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do the video- very helpful indeed!
Thanks for this tutorial, you are awesome!!!!
I have a problem with my jeans NEVER fitting around the waist...I didn't think I could take them in this way b/c of the belt loops and top waist hem. How did you get around that? Yours look awesome.
Gorgeous!! I love your tutorials! I SO envy you being petite! I love the style jean you made (!), but being almost 5'10 and a size EU size 38 I'm afraid I'd look too tall.
I have a question... What does sewing up the sides do to the pockets? Are they still usable?
@StrangeYes! They are. The pockets were about 5 or 6 inches wide and I only took it in about 1" on either side. So they still work perfectly fine.
@Rachel I just cut the sides loops off and it didn't really impact the belt. I still had the front two and back two. But if you were worried that it would be a problem it wouldn't be any trouble to seam rip them out before you took it in then sew them back on later.
What a great tutorial. This was really helpful!
Warmly, Michelle
Those jeans turned out so cute! I've always thought it would be too hard to fix my too-big jeans, so thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm going to try it today!
Love it! I've always wanted jeans like these. I'll have to be on the lookout at the thrift stores. Thanks for the video!
How did you make such a cute hem to the legs your pants? Any tricks? They definitely don't look like they were done at home.
attempting this right now!!! so excited--we have two long weekend trips and I think the jeans will be GREAT!
This is amazing and so helpful. Thanks so much for sharing!
