Ideas 22: Soft Grass Rug
July 31, 2011
Okay! I'd seriously love to make a really large version of this for the girls room. I'd add flowers that grew up out of the grass and a few toadstools, maybe one big one for sitting. Wouldn't that be the CUTEST?! Question is, how long would it take? I wonder if there would be an easier way using mesh and cow hitch knots. Either way, it sounds endless. Get the knitted tut at Lion Brand. But you have to sign up for an account to get access.

Looks like you could just latch hook the entire thing. Maybe add more yarn than usual to make it fluffier.
lol. That is actually what the actually carpet looks like in my living room. Apparently shag carpet was popular in the 70s. It is great for playing with dollhouses on because there's "really" grass for the backyard!
This is cute and seems like it would be fun for a play room! I remember "raking" our shag rug in the '70s. Crazy, huh? Cheers!
I think I'd make one another way... I'd buy one of those shaggy bathmats (preferably in green already, if not in white 100% cotton and dye it). Then I'd add/thread-in randoms strands in different shades of green to get the natural look of colour variation you get with real grass :)
I agree with Bailey, I think you could latch hook it. Cut your own yarn to get the longer strands... Love the look. Would make wonderful baby props!
I found a little stool at the thrift store and recovered it to look like a toad stool! This grass would be perfect for under it:

Ikea have big "grass" rugs. Just add flowers :-)
It appears to be like shaggy rugs. I sure it would be comfortable for children.
