Nectresse Sweetened Summer 'Faux'-hitos

July 31, 2012

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of NECTRESSE™Sweetener for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
It's not a secret. Every non-sugar sweetner I've ever tried I've disliked. It all reminded me of baby asprin. I've never found one that I could stand, until now....seriously.

NECTRESSE™Sweetener is a 100% natural no-calorie sweetener made from monk fruit extract. It's supposed to be 150 times sweeter than sugar and can be used in cooking, baking, beverages, pretty much in place of any time you might use sugar.I decided to try it in some mocktails for the kids. "Faux"hitos! They're made with mint, lime, soda water, raspberries, raspcranberry juice, and of course simple syrup. Now, normally I'd make the simple syrup with plain sugar but this time I used Nectresse.

Simple syrup is made from equal parts sugar and water, one cup each. Now one packet of Nectresse is equal to two teaspoons of sugar. So since there are 48 teaspoons in a cup, I used 24 packets in one cup of water and heated to make my simple syrup.
The girls never said a peep about the fauxhitos tasting funny without real sugar (PS I've never given them anything else). But even more impressive, I couldn't tell that there was a sugar substitute in the mix. It all tasted the same to me. And until then, I had NEVER tried a sweetner that didn't immediately leave a bad taste in my mouth.
If you'd like to try your OWN Nectresse sweetened fauxhito follow the recipe below!

Step 1: Make a simple syrup using Nectresse. Mix one cup of water with 24 packets of Nectresse. Heat in microwave one minute. Stir so that Nectresse crystals are dissolved. Put in freezer to quickly cool as you prepare the rest of the drink.

Step 2. Add 5 mint leaves and 4 raspberries to each glass.

Step 3. Add 2 tablespoons of your Nectresse simple syrup to each glass.

Step 4. Use a wooden spoon and smash the berries and mint leaves in the Nectresse simple syrup.
Step 5. Add your ice cubes to each glass.
Step 6. Add 1/2 cup of soda water to each glass.
Step 7. Add 1/4 cranraspberry juice to each glass.
Step 8. Add two tablespoons of lime juice to each glass.
Step 9. Add garnish and extra berries to top.
DONE! Enjoy your fauxhitos!
YUM!

These look delish! Gorgeous pics as always!!! Seriously though, I'm really impressed with Nectresse, it truly tastes like sugar without the aftertaste.

@Kim WilsonKim, thanks! I 100% agree. I really meant everything I said. I hate artificial sweetners and regardless of brand they all taste the same to me. But with the Nectresse I didn't notice any of that sucralose taste. It was great! Did you try it for a review as well?
