What’s a problem called before it actually becomes a problem? It’s called an issue. A just-launched New York-based startup called Social Power is trying to harnesses the untapped power of social media to resolve everyday issues, big and small, and make a difference.
Social Power allows users to to post an issue that they would like resolved (for example: Amtrak should have internet service on their trains) and if that post receives over 1,000 supporters, Social Power turns it into an "initiative".
This means the individuals responsible for bringing about change (ie an official, board or governing body) are contacted by Social Power. THEN, if the 'Agents of Change' (as Social Power likes to call them) offers an acceptable resolution it is offered back to the Social Power user base to either accept, amend or decline.
I thought I'd try my hand at resolving an issue that I've wanted to see come to fruition for some time. I'd love to see a Trader Joes come to the South Central Pennsylvania region!
Brian commutes to Philly everyday for work and he always tells me about getting to shop at a Trader Joes. There's about 8 in that region, one just outside the train station and yet not a single one here?! I can't believe it.
From speaking to friends and knowing how much I would love to have a Trader Joes, I think the store would be a successful addition to the region. I know many of you don't live any where near me but if you'd like to help me or just love Trader Joes please join me in my issue on Social Power here.
