I think this might be my faaav! And like many others, so easy to make.
I used a special type of ribbon. It's called seam binding ribbon. It's lighter, matte and has a nicer sheen than grosgrain or satin ribbon. It works great with these types of embellishments. I bought mine for only 10 cents a yard. This technique is also great for tee shirt and sweater embellishment. And makes a lovely hair piece. Hot glue several to a headband for a fancy Valentine's look.
1. Cut a piece of yarn about 4" long and lay on top of a fork.
2. Take 3 yards of seam binding ribbon and wrap around fork. Important: do this in a sloppy way. Let the ribbon twist and lay in different directions as you wrap. If you don't it will come out flat.
3. Take your yarn and tie a knot. Not a double one. Hold in place.
4. While you are holding the knot in place, cut all the ribbon on the fork from bottom to top.
5. Now tie a very tight double knot with the yarn.
6. Spray with no fray spray. This type of ribbon is very prone to fray. I would not recommend trying to get away without using some.
7. Cut an oval piece of felt.
8. Glue pompoms to felt. Then glue two clips to bottom of felt.
Done.

So, silly question from the Aussie girl - is seam binding tape the same as hem tape? My hem tape has a gorgeous sheen and is very soft to touch and flowy like the ribbon you have used.
What type of clips do you use? I am curious to know which are the best in terms of confort and not damaging the shoes! Thanks!
I went to the local JoAnn's and asked for no fray spray... they were clueless to what it is. Where could I find some? I have a few projects with shirts and flowers, but need the spray to finish them.

I use alligator clips but you can find shoe clips on easy and eBay. Just use search term "shoe clips".

why do mine look NOTHING like yours?! on which side do you cut the tape? on the back? both sides?

When you wound the ribbon around the fork did you twist the ribbon so it was a little messy? It doesn't work if it lays flat. Also, I cut it on the opposite side as the knot. Just one place.

love these!!! I think the fork is genius! There seems to be a lot of debate about a base for shoe clips, I've been using actual shoe clip finings from Etsy and Ebay. They are nice and flat and they can also clip to a coat without leaving marks.

When you wrap ribbon around the fork, are you twisting the ribbon and moving it in different directions or are you wrapping them neatly and flatly?
I am wrapping them every which way but when I go to cut them it doesn't look right. I am using the seam binding and I also tried the hem tape. Is there a certain thickness I should be using? Yours look so soft and fluffy.

Are you using a fork? I know that sounds silly but if it's anything bigger it won't work quite right.
And, when I mean 'twist' I also mean twisting the ribbon so that it is rolled a little and doesn't lay flat as well as moving it in various directions.
Also, my ribbon is called seam binding but I just want to make sure that you aren't using bias tape. I'm sorry if that's a silly question to ask. I just want to cover all the bases. Your ribbon should be so thin you can see through it. Like this.
I think my issue might be with the ribbon. Yes, I am using seam binding but it is not see through. I will go to the craft store and see if they have this. Or can you recommend a store or online shop to buy from? I am using a regular fork and twisting and turning. I will try to ribbon you showed me and go from there. Thanks so much.
