Shoe Sugar Month: Day 14 Ballet Day Shoes

January 20, 2011

So these aren't "clips" but I do consider them to be shoe sugar. And if you sew them on they are easily removable with a seam ripper. Just two straight stitches one inch long.
This is a great little thing to do to plain flats. Or plain pumps. Best with nothing on the toe already. You can also add the ribbons to the outside of the shoe instead of the inside for a "wrap around" look. I'd use hot glue if you decided to do that instead.
And okay, I just have to mention this. I'm totally enjoying the #altsummit twitter stream. It has some great advice and discussions but I have to admit it's really bittersweet. I'd love to be there. I'm going to try to save up for next year. It's something that I really want to do.
And in case you are interested I'm starting to post on my home/design blog The Tumtum Tree again.
These are just too clever!
I need to figure out a way to make me one of these!

1. Cut a yard and a half of wide ribbon. Cut that in half. Then cut in half again. You should now have four lengths of ribbon.
 2. I think it's best to sew to shoe if possible. That way if you want to change it or just plain don't like it, it's easy to rip out the seams with a seam ripper. But if you're shoe is too thick you can always use hot glue for the next part.

If you are sewing, put on the shoe and pin ribbon to shoe where you want it be on the top of your foot.
 3. Either sew or hot glue to shoe. As I mentioned earlier you can either sew to inside or hot glue to outside for a "wrapped" ribbbon look.
 4. Cut ends of ribbon at an angle.
 5. And spray them with no fray spray.

Done.

Ok so these would be perfect for me because I actually have these shoes!!!!!!

I would suggest melting both ends of ribbon with a flame, or sewing a rolled edge for all-natural fiber ribbon. A big stringy mess might detract from their cuteness!

What a great idea, I am going to do some with black lace. I think I have the same shoes as you, only mine are black :)

Cute. Very "Fancy Nancy" (from the children's book; Fancy Nancy also likes her ribbons to go up her legs; you could do that too with longer ribbons)
