Shoe Sugar Month: Day 16 Bees Knees

January 26, 2011

I made these with simple necklace hardware I found at Michaels.

The shoes I got at thrift store for only $2!! They are from the Ann Taylor Loft. And admittedly they are a bit too small but I just couldn't pass them up.
Michaels has a couple lines of antique looking broaches and necklace baubles. I bought these for only $2.49 a piece. They had even cooler looking antique beetles but they were in the midst of restocking so all the good ones only had one remaining. But perhaps the Michaels  in your area is all stocked up.
I don't have to really do a tutorial for this. All you have to do is hot glue the bauble to a shoe clip. But if your bauble doesn't have a flat bottom like mine which was hollow underneath, just hot glue a piece of felt to the underside and cut any fabric that shows. Then hot glue the clilp to the felt.

These are so cute! But the shoes are even cuter. Where did you get them?

I'm a sucker for anything retro or vintage. I love the shoes and the bees!

If you want to try to stretch the shoes to fit, fill a bag with water and then stuff them in the shoe and freeze it. You could try this multiple times if you needed. Leather stretches!

I did this for several pairs that were just a bit too small, then I could wear them just fine. Of course, if they are seriously way too small then you won't have a chance, but if it's just a smidge you very well might.

So just how small are they? If you find you need to give them a good home elsewhere I would be very willing to take them off your hands *wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more say no more*

Hey there! I've really been enjoying Shoe Sugar month. I even set out to make a few myself and ordered some shoe clip blanks from Etsy when I was unsuccessful at finding them in any craft store in town. I was sorely disappointed when the shoe clips BROKE before I could even wear them out the door.

You may have addressed this before, and if so I apologize in advance, but do you have a preferred type of shoe clip that you use? I know sometimes you use the lil alligator clips. Can you tell me how comfortable these are and your success rate with them? Thanks so much for all you do!

I love all your creative ideas! So... I can't tell what size those amazing shoes are, but I wear a size 6 1/2 to 7 if you want to pass them along :)

Oh wow! I haven't been in Michael's in months (it's in the shopping center in town that is the worst laid out--I avoid it if possible! :p), but now I think I'll have to go. This would look so cute on several pairs of shoes in my closet... ;)

Kathleen,
You can get shoe stretchers on eBay for about $15. They work pretty well. Love the color of those shoes!

Everyone,
Thanks for the advice about stretching. Lynn, I'm definitely going to try the ebay thing you suggested because (since I buy shoes on sale and at thrift stores) I have a lot shoes that could use a bit of stretching.

Trina,
I would contact that etsy seller and see if she'll offer you a refund or maybe replacement. They shouldn't break within a few days of getting them. But what I've been doing is using clips I've bought in the craft section at Walmart. I think they're for your hair but they don't have the grabby teeth that alligator clips do so they won't damage your shoe.

As for comfort I haven't worn them with flats yet so the jury is still out. But I'll wear them today and try to let you know.

Lynn,
I just bought a pair! I also bought the liquid stuff and I'm going to try and use both at the same time. Hopefully I'll get a good result!

Excited to see what happens! I have a TON of shoes I don't wear often because they are just a liiiittle too small.

Must...find...bee...brooch!
Those are so darling, but I'm afraid my toddler would be so fascinated he'd "gently" try to borrow them off my shoes!

Love the headband! And I saw some polka dot lace that looked sort of like the sleeves of that dress at fabric.com and if you search for a promo code you can get 15% off!
