Often the difference between a plain jane dress (which at times can be quite beautiful) and a second glance dress (ooooo, like that name for a dress, might use it later) is the combination of color and fabric.
I've been visiting this website, Color Collective, as it has good references for color combinations and clothing. Good for when you have an inspiration block.
But I also love the idea of a fabric journal. Gives a very tactile reference to your ideas.

I love the idea of a fabric journal. I'm in an apartment so storage space is limited so in addition to it being a mood board of sorts, for me it would also be a catalog of the fabric I have as opposed to digging through it all each time. Thanks for the awesome idea!
Thanks for sharing. Totally stealing that idea sometime.
I was trying to write down the fabrics of some of the items I am making for my spring line of clothing, and it was getting a bit confusing. You just saved my sanity! A fabric journal is the perfect idea. I am starting mine tonight, right after I finish my first peasant top for my dd.
